Fuchsia Shaping and Trimming

The fuchsia is a popular year-old flower. The general merchandise potted flowers are mostly short at 10 cm and the plants are shorter. People buy it and let them grow. After a period of flowering, the branches are too long, the plants are in shape, and the flowers are hanging too low. After a long time needs to be trimmed: 1. Seedling Pruning: The purpose of seedling shaping is to cultivate a beautiful plant shape. Different pruning methods should be determined according to the growth characteristics of different species. 1.1 cross-shaped pruning method: apply to branches open smaller angle (branch lifts) of the species, such as 'Purple Hammer' and so on. When the young seedlings are about 20 cm tall, the tops are destroyed and new shoots are promoted. Because the lateral branches are generally symmetric, the upper two pairs of cross-shaped symmetric branches are left, and the lower branches and leaves are all erased. About 10 centimeters from the side branch, the tip of the tree is cut again. The new branch is allowed to grow after being born, and the lateral branches that grow inward and downward are removed at any time. Generally 15 cm to 18 cm caliber pots retain 8 to 10 flowering branches. 1.2 Tower-shaped pruning method: It is applicable to varieties with large lateral branch opening angles (stretching of branches) and stronger growth tendency, such as "white pagoda" and "girl dress". Seedlings do not hit the top. When they grow to about 20 cm, all branches and leaves below 10 cm are removed. After the birth of the lateral branches, layered pruning can be used to avoid overlapping of branches. Leave two pairs of symmetrical branches on one floor, remove two pairs of symmetrical branches, and then leave two pairs of symmetrical branches, and then remove two pairs of symmetrical branches. This is repeated. Branchlets near the top of the stem remain all. If the base branches are too long, they can be short and the whole plant is tower-shaped. 1.3 The natural form pruning method: applicable to branches, weak varieties and large flowers, double flap varieties. Trim into natural form according to the length. When the young seedling grows to 30 cm to 40 cm, it goes to the top of the main trunk, removes the adjacent overlapping branches, and the long branches are short and cause branching. At any time to fight inward growth of lateral branches, maintaining a beautiful plant shape. 2. Flowering pruning: In the northern natural environment, the fuchsia blooms from April to July. The last picking up should be stopped in late spring. It blooms in the middle and late April. As the top of the branches continuously blossoms and elongates, when the flowering branches grow to a certain length, they should hit the top, and the new shoots sent out can continue to bloom. Flowering shoots and leaves at the center of the plant can be destroyed at any time during the flowering period to avoid nutrient consumption and facilitate ventilation. 3. Post-flower pruning: When the temperature reached 30°C in July, the plants entered a semi-dormant state. The leaves appear to be weak, and then heavy pruning is needed to reduce the consumption of nutrients. All the short branches were short, leaving only the backbone branches, and part of the old leaves were removed and placed in a cool place over the summer. If there are buds born during the over-summer period, they must be removed. New branches will be issued in the fall of September and the plant shape will be more compact and beautiful.
