BlackBerry plans to develop sterile smartphones for the medical industry

Release date: 2015-07-28

According to the Bloomberg website, BlackBerry is considering developing a sterile smartphone for the medical industry. At the same time, BlackBerry is working with Cisco and software company ThoughtWire to develop mobile messaging and early warning systems for the Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital in Toronto, Canada.

BlackBerry CEO John Chen said: "With a sterile phone, medical workers need to wipe things at any time."

AvivGladman, chief medical information officer of Canadian medical service provider Mackenzie Health, also pointed out that aseptic mobile phones will be of great value, and bacterial transmission and cross-infection within hospitals is a big problem. Medical workers should wipe the device with alcohol before and after entering the ward, but this precaution is not completely effective.
