Brazilian scientists test anticocaine vaccine

Medical Network November 22, Brazilian scientists are currently testing a vaccine that can help cocaine addicts by preventing cocaine from entering the brain.
Cocaine is currently the main type of drug banned globally. The relapse rate of cocaine drug addicts after detoxification is still high, and there is currently no effective anti-relapse drug or means.
The human immune system cannot recognize the cocaine molecules because they are too small to produce the corresponding antibodies. According to a report on the Brazilian World Network on the 20th, researchers at the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Brazil first produced molecules similar to cocaine in the laboratory and converted them into molecules recognizable by the human immune system. The immune system is then activated and begins to produce antibodies against cocaine.
When a true cocaine molecule enters the body, the antibody binds to it and does not detach. These antibodies will prevent cocaine from entering the human brain, and cocaine is caused by stimulating the human brain to make people addicted.
Researchers are currently conducting animal experiments on this vaccine in monkeys, after they have experimented with rodents and achieved good results.
Researcher Frederick Garcia said, "Unlike the use of protein vaccines, we use organic molecules, the advantage is that it is easy to manufacture in the laboratory, does not require frozen storage, and therefore more stable."
Currently, this vaccine has not yet entered the clinical trial phase. Garcia expects the vaccine to take two to three years from clinical trial success to market entry.
