Grafted fruit saplings for winter management

The newly grafted fruit saplings are susceptible to freezing damage due to the healing of the wounds and the poor resistance to winter. In order to make the newly grafted fruit seedlings safe for winter, the following technical measures should be taken.

1. Fill the frozen water at the right time. Before the soil is frozen, the seedbed path or furrow is digging with a plow or manually digging the trench, and then the frozen water is poured once along the ditch, and the water is filled. Therefore, the soil just begins to freeze, which helps the soil to keep warm and keep the soil moisture sufficient to meet the water consumption of the fruit trees during the winter.

2. Carry out root neck soil. Before the freezing, the root neck of the grafted fruit seedlings will be cultivated with 20 cm high mature soil to prevent freezing of the root system, so as to facilitate the safe wintering of the seedlings.

3. Set up a cold barrier. According to the topography of the nursery, corn stalks are used before the soil is frozen, and a wind barrier is set every 23 seed beds (or seedling rows), or a mound of about 50 cm high is piled up on the northwest side of the small fruit seedlings for wind protection.

4. The seedlings are painted white. Take 5 kg of quicklime and 0.5 kg of salt, separate them with water, mix and stir, add 0.5 kg of vegetable oil and 0.5 kg of stone sulphur mixture to prepare whitening agent, apply or sprinkle on the seedling before the soil is frozen, so that the whole sapling The surface is white or grayish white, which can reflect sunlight, prevent sudden changes in temperature, enhance cold resistance, and effectively prevent pests and winters on the trunk.
