New research indicates hopeful use of Global Positioning System (GPS) technology to track pancreatic tumor metastasis.
Calypso Medical Technologies Inc. announced data from a clinic-sponsored survey at the University of Pennsylvania that showed the utility of the Calypso system to track pancreatic tumors. The results of the survey were presented to the 51st Annual Meeting of American Medical Physicists, which was held in Anaheim, USA, from July 26th to 30th, 2009.
Dr. James Metz, a health system in Pennsylvania, said: "The Calypso system has successfully tracked pancreatic tumors, which makes us feel very excited because our time response characteristics indicate that Calypso's GPS technology can be applied to other Prospects in the field of anatomy."
Calypso technology provides accurate, continuous real-time information on the location of tumors by implanting diseased micro-transponders and performing radiation therapy in vitro. After understanding the precise location of the tumor, the tumor can be accurately treated with radiation.
