British scientists develop new biomimetic lenses

Release date: 2008-09-26

It is reported that British researchers are developing a biomimetic lens that can be used to correct myopia or hyperopia after implanting it into the patient's eye, helping the patient to remove the glasses permanently. This bionic lens is available as soon as five years later.
The study was led by Professor James Wolfson of Aston University in Birmingham, England. He worked with several companies to develop a new type of biomimetic lens that would make the vision of middle-aged people around 45 years old as good as young people around 20 years old. It takes half an hour for the biomimetic lens to be implanted into the eye surgery. After the operation, the patient will not suffer from cataract in the elderly. The biomimetic lens can also be used as an artificial crystal in cataract surgery.
The high-elasticity bionic lens developed in the working principle is that the eye muscles squeeze the bionic lens into a suitable shape, so that when the person looks far or near, the eyeball focus point can accurately fall on the retina. The researchers said that the bionic lens implantation surgery is divided into three steps. First, the doctor puts a soft acrylic lens into the eye after local anesthesia. Then, the incision is made at the edge of the eye, and the probe is inserted to remove the original lens. Finally, the bionic lens is closed and fixed. A few people need to suture the incision. The patient can go home the same day after surgery.
Wolfson said the bionic lens will be available in 5 to 10 years, and it is estimated that a pair of bionic lenses will cost less than £2,000 (about $3,520). He added that contact lenses are cheap but "need to buy all year round" and bionic lenses are a one-time investment.
The lens is located on the front side of the vitreous body, and is surrounded by a ciliary body and has a lenticular shape. The lens is a biconvex transparent tissue that is suspended by the suspensory ligament before the vitreous. It is an important component of the refractive system of the eyeball, and it is also the only refractive interstitial with regulating ability. Its regulating ability gradually decreases with age, forming a phenomenon of presbyopia.

Honghui capsule produces gelatin hollow capsule in large scale with well-equipped facilities.

The gelatin hollow capsule is a shell with special color and shape, made of the main raw material of gelatin. It is always used as special packaging of medicines or health care products which have bad smell, light sensitive of unstable,.

The capsules do not need adhesives and numerous excipients during the production process, easy to disintegrate and release in gastric juice.

The capsule can improve the bioavailability compared with tablet and pill. Meanwhile, it has some other avantages such as accurate dosage, convenient carrying and safe sealing.
